Meghan Markle Reportedly Wishes Her Father Would “Stop Blathering”

emphasized textBy Mark Cuthbert/UK Press/Getty Images. There has been much discussion, since Thomas Markle started talking to the press on a semi-regular basis, as to how both the palace and his daughter might “handle” the situation moving forward. So far, Meghan has, unsurprisingly, remained silent about the actions and words of her very chatty family. This is standard course for the royals, who do not, as a rule, comment on any goings-ons—personal, political, or otherwise—no matter how much, one imagines, they may wish to.Thomas has said some pretty crazy things! He has said Meghan would be “better off” if he was dead! He has criticized the way she is dressing and smiling as a royal! He has even evoked Princess Diana, claiming she would not have approved of the way he has been treated! (Thomas claims, after he couldn’t make the royal wedding, that he has been iced out by Prince Harry and Meghan.)A new report from the Daily Mail, allegedly sourced from a “close friend” of Meghan’s, claims that Meghan has had enough. “For the life of her, she can’t understand why he’s digging such a deep hole for himself—and to say things like, ‘It would be easier for her if her dad died,’” the friend told the Daily Mail. “She said she just wishes her dad would ‘stop blathering’ to the press. That’s the one birthday gift she wanted from her father.”While there have been conflicting reports about whether or not Meghan is planning to reach out to her father—there is a reported solo U.S. trip in the near future for the Duchess—the friend claims Meg isn’t exactly going to be texting Thomas upon her arrival stateside. “Meghan has no immediate plans to contact her father. Firstly, she’s deeply hurt, and secondly, she can’t trust him to keep their conversation private,” she continued. “Meghan is big on being true to herself and taking care of herself, and if this means avoiding toxic relationships so be it. It’s not like she’s never ever going to speak with her dad again, but certainly not now, not in this climate.”As some have assumed, Meghan is very used to this sort of behavior from Thomas at this point, the (oddly indiscreet?) friend told the outlet: “Behavior like his doesn’t happen overnight. Why do you think her parents got divorced in the first place? Meghan’s had to deal with a lot of self-esteem issues, growing up with a narcissist. She has tools to cope with emotional blackmail. She does pray for him. That’s Meghan. She does not have a bad bone in her body, but she’s not falling for her dad’s crocodile tears. She’s been down that road far too many times before.”If we know Thomas and Meghan’s half-sister Samantha at this point—and boy, doesn’t it feel like we’ve known them for eons?—you can be sure that we’ll be getting some pointed responses to these quotes from both of them in the next few days.Get Vanity Fair’s Royal WatchA weekly overview of the chatter from Kensington Palace and beyond.Full ScreenPhotos:Meghan Markle’s Royal Engagement StyleLondon, April 25Jacket and dress by Emilia Wickstead, hat by Philip Treacy, bag by Jimmy Choo.Photo: By Samir Hussein/WireImage.London, April 23Dress by Hugo Boss, bag by Wilbur & Gussie.Photo: By Facundo Arrizabalaga/EPA-EFE/REX/Shutterstock.London, April 21Dress by Stella McCartney, bag by Naeem Kahn.Photo: From REX/Shutterstock.London, April 21Dress by Self-Portrait, blazer by Alexander McQueen, bag by Roland Mouret.Photo: By Karwai Tang/WireImage.Nottingham, December 1Wearing a Wolford sweater, Joseph skirt, and Kurt Geiger boots.Photo: By Andy Stenning/WPA Pool/Getty Images.Nottingham, December 1Wearing a Mackage coat and carrying a Strathberry bag.Photo: By David Hartley/REX/Shutterstock.London, November 27Wearing a Line coat, P.A.R.O.S.H. dress, and Aquazzura shoes.Photo: By Dominic Lipinski/PA Images/Getty Images.,
